Exfoliation: The Natural Body and Face Lift!

Lets talk exfoliation!

This is one of the most important habits you can create when it comes to taking care of your skin. Adding this to your home skincare routine for your face and body serves so many tremendous benefits not only physically, but is a huge part of detoxification as well! By removing dead skin cells, you allow for new and healthy ones to thrive. This increases blood circulation, improving the lymphatic system, helps break down fatty tissues, and break down and drain toxins from the skin. This leaves your skin healthy, beautiful, glowing, and SOFT! The benefits range from helping all types of skin problems, skin blemishes, clogged pores, dry skin, dark spots, ingrowing hairs, decreasing blackheads, minimizing fine lines, and helping your skin to stay toned and hydrated naturally.

If you're not in the habit of doing this yet, it is so easy to incorporate into your daily shower routine, and only takes a few simple and all natural ingredients to make it yourself at home!

We are sharing our two of our favorite homemade scrub recipes here for you to try! The first is our coffee body scrub recipe! Even if you're not much of a coffee drinker, but can still enjoy the smell of coffee, you will LOVE it! The second is our green tea face scrub! These will leave your skin silky, smooth, and delicious instantly!

For the coffee scrub: 

All you need is ground coffee, cinnamon, coconut oil (can be substituted for sweet almond oil), and organic cane sugar (can be substituted for a different type of sugar as well).

The benefits of coffee are its antioxidant content (anti inflammatory properties), caffeine content (makes the skin smooth and firm by drawing out excess moisture), and its texture making it a mild exfoliant (for removing the dead skin cells to make room for the new ones)

The cane sugar's textures serves as an exfoliant as well to create deeper exfoliation.

Coconut oil is one of the most amazing and versatile ingredients for almost ANYTHING. For the scrub it serves as a moisturizer and allows your skin to absorb all its vitamin and mineral goodness!

Finally, the cinnamon has antibacterial properties that clean your skin and help circulation by drawing blood to the surface of the skin which can help flatten any lines.

COFFEE BODY SCRUB RECIPE:

-1/2 cup of fine ground coffee (you can buy whole coffee and grind it in a blender)

-1/2 cup of cane sugar: (you can also use coconut sugar, brown sugar, etc)

-1/4 cup of coconut oil (you can also use sweet almond oil if you have it available)

-1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Combine all the ingredients together in a bowl until well mixed. You can store the final scrub in an airtight jar to keep it fresh!

For the green tea scrub:

All you need is dry green tea (the tea packets you drink at home are perfect!), organic cane sugar (can be substituted for a different type of natural sugar as well), and olive oil.

The Green tea is packed with antioxidants (they will help reduce redness due to anti-inflammatory properties), and will leave your skin with a healthy glow. Its texture also helps with the exfoliating process.

The sugar's texture serves as an exfoliant. It is best to use a sugar that has very small granules rather than large and coarse ones because your face is more sensitive and requires a more gentle exfoliator.

We choose olive oil for the base of this scrub because it is great for regenerating skin and can be used on sensitive skin as well. It is full of vitamins and minerals that are easily absorbed. It's vitamin E and A content makes it great for hydrating your skin, and contributing to elasticity, softness, and younger looking skin.

GREEN TEA FACE SCRUB RECIPE:

-1 cup of organic cane sugar (you can also use coconut sugar or other fine grain natural sugars)

-2 green tea bags

-1/2 cup of olive oil

Empty the contents of the green tea bags into a bowl, and combine with the rest of the ingredients until well mixed. You can store the final scrub in an airtight jar to keep it fresh!

The best way to exfoliate is in the shower. Get in and wet your skin slightly, then apply the body scrub in circular motions all over your body including your hands and feet! Do the same for the face scrub. When you are fully scrubbed, rinse off, and pat your skin dry with a towel. You will feel the difference right away. If you tend to have dry skin, apply your favorite natural moisturizer after your skin is completely dry.

We recommend exfoliating just 2 times a week for both your face and body. This is enough to really notice a difference in your skin. It is important not to overdo this process, as over exfoliating will strip away too many of your skin's natural oils. Remember, the key is balance !
