Spire io $99
“How you breathe dictates every internal process in your brain and body”.
This small device that clips to your waist and connects to an app on your phone tracks your breathing, your step goals, minutes of focus, calm, tense, active, and sedentary moments. It does this by monitoring your torso expansion and contraction as you breath. Everyones breathing patterns are different and we all take a different number of breaths per minute when we’re calm or anxious. Spire collects data from your breathing patterns then works with its algorithms in identifying what emotional state you are in, advising you when it’s time to focus on your breath. This removes people from spiraling down into automatic thought patterns and bring them back to a calm mindful state. The small device alerts you after minutes of tense breathing caused by stress or anxiety to assist you in snapping out of it. To help with these moments, you may use the library of guided meditations on hand with the app. The spire has been used by health professionals including psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, coaches, therapists, and nutritionists to target challenges and promote self awareness. Through self awareness will come self regulation resulting in good habits that may assist people in working through stressful moments. It will also help people in pin pointing what targets their moments of anxiety from looking at the data reports the app creates and linking it to calendar. This product was designed by a world class team of researchers hailing from Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Wisconsin at Madison, and Georgetown University.
I can’t help but brag about this product! Living in NY and directly being affected by winter blues proves the power of sunlight is everything! This tiny, effective and portable device is so helpful. I would definitely call this little guy a friend for all times. The HumanCharger comes with earbuds that produce light which travels through your ear canal and touch photoreceptor-proteins on the surface of the brain. Our bodies like and crave routine. Our positive feelings are interlinked with sunlight. Serotonin, which is produced with the assistance of vitamin D, sets your body’s circadian clock and also ties into your cell health, hormone production, and other biological functions. When our circadian clock is properly functioning, our cravings decrease and energy levels increase making life work to our advantage. With all this said, hello light therapy! This is the new and effective treatment for any low feels and/or depression (please do not trade your medications in for holistic treatments unless first speaking to your personal physician and psychologist). This little guy boasts in reviews for people who travel and suffer from jet lag. There are special instructions to help you with this so that you may enjoy all of your vacation from the beginning up until your arrival back home. It takes about 12 minutes of light therapy through the human charger for regular days and longer sessions in intervals for jet lag. I recommend using a non portable lamp when at home such as the Carex Day-Light Classic Plus Lamp that starts at $134. Light therapy from lamps such as the Carex is proven to treat SAD symptoms (seasonal affective disorder), seasonal depression, clinical and non seasonal depression.
- "November 2015 Efficacy of Bright Light Treatment, Fluoxetine, and the Combination in Patients With Nonseasonal Major Depressive Disorder” published online in the journal JAMA Psychiatry
- “The suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) relies on light exposure to stay synchronized with our environments and to regulate our circadian rhythms which affect the 24-hour cyclical function of every cell in the human body. Sunlight also facilitates Vitamin D production”. (psychologytoday.com)
ŌURA Ring $299
This sleek ring that comes in two different colors and two different styles sits comfortably on your finger’s artery absorbing important physiological data. Some of this data includes your heartbeat, the distance between each one, your sleep stages, and interruptions. The people behind ŌURA strongly believe that your day is affected by how well you sleep and the activities you perform during the day affects your sleep. Since this is a true fact, tracking your physiological data and your activities are important to pinpoint what may be deterring good quality days and nights. There is an app that is connected so that you may see all the data recorded. How nice is it to track your sleep in order to understand you daily performance. Understanding can lead to self compassion. I love the idea of this ring and how it promotes listening to your body. "Let your body be your guide!"
